The Midwife Mumma

Meet the Midwife Mumma & Super Mum of the week, Amelia Lamont.

As a mama and a midwife, Amelia knows a fair bit when it comes to pregnancy & parenthood.

She wishes she could have a cleaning super power (wouldn't that be amazing!), and her favourite go-to 5 o'clock drink is a good ol' glass of shiraz.

You’re Mum to?

Alfie 2 years & 3 months (going on 6) and Essie 7 months!

Funniest parenting moment so far?

Hmmmmmmm well the latest was when I was at Coles and my trolley bumped into another and Alfie shouted “Fuk Hell Mummy”…. NOT proud but I did laugh.. I mean … I swear BUT not in front of the kids!!! He obviously tunes in more then I think but I definitely do not say Fuk Hell!!!

Your approach to motherhood is very much right up our alley; honest, refreshing and oh-so real. As a midwife too, what’s your best advice for those about to embark on the crazy wonderful journey that is motherhood?

RELAXXXXXX & breathe….. Take ONE thing at a time. DO NOT try & be super mum and definitely DO NOT compare yourself to those on Social Media. Always remember the hard days are only temporary and a relaxed mumma means a relaxed bubba!! When in doubt tell yourself “This too shall pass”!!!

Describe your perfect day.

A sleep in to 8am (this is a sleep in for me ha!) and a cup of tea brought straight to me still in bed!! This is generally my Sunday morning.. NOT always but most of the time J  We own our own business so my partner works 6 out of 7 days a week!! This means SUPER early starts and late finishes so Sunday is his main day at home & he loves getting up to the kids and doing the brekkie/early start (believe it or not).  A perfect day is where the kids laugh all day long and there are minimal tantrums!! They are getting few and far between now (thanks to the terrible 2’s)!! We are a pretty relaxed household.. We get out at least once a day.  The kids love a walk with the dog and a run around the park… This Is a break for me also! Sundays we love a lamb roast at our house with friends.. we are always entertaining so that makes for a pretty perfect day also.  Don’t be fooled.. I also loveeeeeee a lazy Sunday on the couch watching movies while the kids nap.

You’ve got two kids under two – what’s your secret, apart from your awesome can-do attitude?

Well I would like to say being organized but that’s not entirely true (see my horror insta stories for my messy life ha).. The secret is to be relaxed.  The more stressed you are the worse your day is and it rubs off on the kids… I try and make time for just Alfie and I a few times a day because their world is so easily turned upside down in the blink of an eye and all of  a sudden they have to share their mum & dad.  Whilst the kids sleep I do my cooking for dinner and house chores!!! If I sit down I can’t get up again ZZzzzZZZzz!! An afternoon routine of early dinner, bath & bed is my key to staying sane!!! That is when I stop & enjoy my down time.

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Brekkie at a café, park walk & a movie while the kids nap!

It’s 5 o’clock...(somewhere)...what’s your drink of choice?

Shiraz!!!! I LOVEEEEE a good Red… A Gin & Tonic in Summer but my god pass me that bottle of Red!!!

Never again will I...

Pack 18 outfits for a baby for 7 days. What was I actually thinking? Who Am I kidding? My babies wore nothing but bathers the whole week we were in Noosa!!! I really need to work on my OVER packing skills!

 The Midwife Mumma

What is the quality you most like in a person?

Honesty!! Cannot stand liars & dishonest people.

Would you rather give up coffee or wine for a year?

Coffee… I wish I could love that stuff but it gives me horrid heart palpitations!!! My body is so sensitive to things high in caffeine.. any more then 2 cups of tea a day and I won’t sleep!!!

If you could wake up with a super power tomorrow, what would it be?

I wish I had a cleaning super power.  My house is always messy no matter how much I clean.  I always have people here so if I could press a button that would make my house spic and spam in seconds that would be the ultimate super power!!! Ahhhhh a girl can only dream right?

 The Midwife Mumma

What’s your motto?

This too shall pass AND Everything happens for a reason! Big believer in that.

If you could jet off tomorrow to any destination in the world, where would you go?

New York!!! I have never been and I dream of that day I can go without the kiddies and my partner for 10 days!! Ha that sounds super selfish right? Let’s be honest.. my kids wont be able to stay up for the 10pm dinner reservations.. We aim to go end of next year! I would love to also do a shotgun wedding there :)

In three words, describe yourself as a mum.

Impatient (this is me in general unfortunately – I am working on it people), relaxed (I just pretend I am not living in chaos) & happy (well I am 99% of the time – If I get enough sleep haha)!!! I want a million more babies so it can't be that bad can it?

With love,

My Super Nanny.
